Intergenerational Activities

Intergenerational activities are a great way to give back to the community and enhance your well-being. It is the shared knowledge, skills, and experiences among the generations that build and strengthen communities. Come share your wisdom and create friendships through our intergenerational programs. Call our Director of Programs and Outreach for more details.

GLOBE

GLOBE is a national hands-on program for older adults and school age children to learn about environmental issues and how to predict potential environmental disasters. Volunteers at the Center provide scientists with important environmental data collected here on the premises. Participants are able to discuss weather and environmental related issues among themselves via the internet. Dauphin St. Café

The Café is open Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., offering a buffet style lunch and even Healthy Heart choices!  Meals are affordable and meal tickets can be purchased. Dauphin St. Café is available for catering services and banquet facilities.  Call 470-5232 for more details.

Health and Fitness

Fitness Classes
A variety of fitness classes ranging from beginning to more advanced are offered throughout the year.

Fitness Room
Treadmills, stationary bikes, hand weights, weight machines, stair stepper, seated rower, and a TV/VCR are available. 

 

   


Personal Enrichment

Continuous learning opportunities in computer training, language, painting, woodworking, reading, a variety of art classes, music, tai chi, and dancing have proven to enhance mental stimulation and self image.


Building Rentals

Meeting Rooms: You may rent a meeting room for yourself or your organization. See the Member Services Coordinator for further information.

The auditorium or the café are available for special functions at a reasonable rate.  If you would like to use the auditorium for a special event see the Member Services Coordinator for details.

COMMUNITY EVENTS POLICY

Please read all materials concerning Via's rules and regulations. Only the completed and signed application, with the correct deposit will reserve a date.

Rules and Regulations:
 

A room/damage deposit of $200.00 is required at the time of reserving your date. The deposit may be refunded to the applicant on the next check distribution after the reserved area has been inspected for any damage.

You are responsible for clean up, removing all garbage from the building and placing it in the dumpster at the close of your function.

Stage usage: The damage deposit does not include any carpet damages incurred during your function. There will be additional fees to restore the carpet to its original condition if required upon the inspection at the end of the function.

There is a 30 day notice required for cancellations. Deposits will be retained 100% on cancellations made after the 30 days. (Reservations made within a 30 day period that cancel, 50% will be retained.)

The Executive Director retains the authority to reschedule events as necessary.

The Executive Director, or designee, retains the authority to evict any person or personnel from the building or from the premises.

It is prohibited to use other areas of the building.

If children are present during your function, they must be supervised at all times. Any damage caused from lack of supervision will be the renter’s responsibility.

The kitchen is only available for private parties using an approved licensed caterer.

Bird seed, rice, glitter, any type of confetti, silly string are prohibited. Bubbles are permitted.

Use of tobacco products is not allowed inside the building. Designated smoking areas and ashtrays are available outside the building.

Tape is not allowed on the walls or furniture.

Fundraising events require special approval by the Executive Director.

No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the premises without proper insurance and approval by the Executive Director.

Setting up/Decorating:
If any additional time is needed for setting up or decorating for an event, additional time may be purchased at $50.00 per hour.

· Lattice screen is available for $25.00 per event.

Special Arrangements:
Dining room set up is stationary and should not be re-arranged.

Arrangements for the auditorium must be communicated on the rental form.

 


Via! Transportation Service

Via! transportation service is available to residents in Mobile, 50 and older within a 8 mile radius. Rides are limited to and from Via! Center for support services and recreation opportunities. A current Via! Center membership is required for transportation services. Fares must be paid at the time of service.


Service Hours
Transportation is available

Monday through Friday,

7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Daily pick-ups are between 7:15 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

Returns are between 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Transportation is not available on designated holidays when the Center is closed. You must allow a thirty-minute variance in your scheduled pick up time.

You may reserve your ride two (2) weeks in advance; a 48-hour notice is required in advance of your desired date for a reservation.

Same day service is not available.

Be prepared to provide the following information:
Your name and birth date.
Your address with directions and landmark identification. (Please be brief)
Your telephone number and emergency contact information.
Please indicate if special assistance devices or lift equipment is needed.

Fares

$20.00 for a 10 single ride boarding pass

Cancellations
Reserved trips should be cancelled by noon the day before by calling 478-3311

If you come to the Center on the same days every week you may register every Thursday for the following week.  You will be notified of the approximate time that you will be picked up in the morning. You must allow a 30 - 45 minute variance in your scheduled pick up time.
